Under direct supervision, performs a variety of maintenance, repair and construction work in the care of public grounds, buildings, streets, sidewalks, right-of-way, and easements; operates and maintains a variety of maintenance and construction tools and equipment; and performs related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Performs a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction work in the care of public grounds, buildings, streets, sidewalks, right-of-way, and easements.
Utilizing blowers and hand tools, cleans parking lots and sidewalks.
Maintains all city planters by weeding and changing out plants.
Collects trash and empties trash cans at bus stops, city malls, and city owned parking lots.
Maintains lighting in city facilities and parking lots.
Replaces broken sprinklers and irrigation lines.
Repairs plumbing issues inside city facilities.
Maintains city streets and sidewalks.
Maintains city street and traffic signs, curb markings and residential curb address markings.
Cleans and maintains the City Yard.
Operates and maintains a variety of equipment such as tamping rammers, blowers, grinders, and saws.
Operate automotive and construction equipment.
Sets up appropriate traffic safety controls during special events and around maintenance work sites.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:
Operations, services, and activities of a public works and facility maintenance programs.
The purposes, use, and maintenance of equipment used in the maintenance of streets, sidewalks, buildings and grounds.
General construction and maintenance methods and terminology.
Basic principles and practices of irrigation systems.
Operation, maintenance and repair of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
Basic concept of public works and facility maintenance principles and practices.
Principles and techniques of Work Area Traffic Control.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Ability to:
Follow written and oral directions or instructions from supervisor.
Work effectively and independently in the absence of supervision.
Understand and follow work rules and procedures.
Work creatively and collaboratively with others.
Respond to requests and inquiries from the public.
Use equipment and tools related to street, sidewalk, and facility maintenance safely and efficiently.
Operate automotive and construction equipment safely and efficiently.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and
Experience:
Combination of training and experience equivalent to the completion of high school and two years' experience in building, street, sidewalk, and facility maintenance.
Completion of recognized training courses in carpentry, electrical or plumbing may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
Other
Qualifications:
Possession of a valid Class C motor vehicle operator's license from the State of California.
Physical Demands:
Use arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
Drive a motor vehicle legally and safely under various conditions; bend, reach, enter and exit a motor vehicle frequently.
Drive, sit, stand, walk, run, kneel and climb for extended periods of time.
Work in outside environmental conditions, including unfavorable weather conditions.
Walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.
Lift, push or pull up to 60 pounds.

To accrue at a total of 80 hours per year of employment for a maximum of 320 hours.
Holidays:

Lifetime benefit for fully vested employees (employee only) which is 5 consecutive years of full-time employment with the City upon retirement.

100% paid for employees.
Lifetime benefit for fully vested employees which is 5 consecutive years of full-time employment with the City upon retirement.
Employee Opt Out:
The City will provide employee with an opt-out stipend of $500.
00 per month in lieu of health insurance coverage.
Employee Optional (Supplemental) Benefits Plan:
The City provides $1,744.
00 per fiscal year for each full-time employee to use for the sole purpose of payment of employee out-of-pocket health insurance premiums Deferred Compensation:
Each month, the City will match an employee's contribution to the City-offered 457 plan, up to a maximum of 1.
5% of the employee's base salary.
Life Insurance:
$50,000 per full-time employee.
Disability:
Provided for non-occupational accidents or illness.
Premiums are paid by the City for full-time employees.
Retirement:
The City participates in the CalPERS retirement system.
Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.
Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.
5% @ 55 benefit formula.
All employees hired after January 1, 2012 are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.
Social Security:
The City does not participate in Social Security.
The City and employee both contribute 1.
45% for Medicare.
